Tanzania is an East African country known for its vast wilderness areas. They include the plains of Serengeti National Park, a safari mecca populated by the “big five” game (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), and Kilimanjaro National Park, home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and Mafia, with a marine park home to whale sharks and coral reefs.
Dar es Salaam
Founded in 1865, Dar es Salaam or commonly known as Dar, is the largest city, financial hub and commercial port on Tanzania’s Indian Ocean coast, grew from a fishing village. With a population of over six million people, Dar is the largest city in East Africa and the seventh largest in Africa.
University of Dar es Salaam
The University of Dar es Salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university has five campuses in and around the city of Dar es Salaam and operates academically through ten faculties.
