Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan, a Central Asian country and former Soviet republic, extends from the Caspian Sea in the west to the Altai Mountains at its eastern border with China and Russia. As the largest country in Central Asia and the ninth largest in the world, it dominates Central Asia economically and politically, generating 60 percent of the region's GDP. Kazakhstan is a democratic, secular, unitary, constitutional republic with a diverse cultural heritage, and has the highest Human Development Index ranking in the region.

Almaty
Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest metropolis, is set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. It served as the country's capital until 1997 and remains Kazakhstan's trading and cultural hub. Almaty is still the major commercial and cultural center of Kazakhstan, as well as its most populous and most cosmopolitan city.
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is a national research university located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Named after the philosopher and scholar al-Farabi, it is the largest university and oldest university in Kazakhstan. It is also consistently ranks highest nationally and as a top institution in Central Asia.
